This is a delightful project that adds affordable housing to an area of Arizona that is sorely lacking in affordable housing. Fitting the fourplex, the required parking and individual back yards on the site was a challenge but we are happy with the way it worked out. This site also presents unique challenges as it is not hooked up to municipal sewer and water but instead has an onsite well and septic tank. The angle of the roofs is designed to take full advantage of solar panels that the owner would like to install in the future. The client requested covered parking for the tenants which will also have solar panels on it in the future. The client did not want to have any balconies on the units for maintenance purposes, so we staggered the units and recessed the entries to create interest and variety on the front facade. The entrance to the four units is specially designed to encourage interaction between neighbors, however, when tenants need privacy, they will have a private backyard to retreat to.
