Residential Remodel and Addition in the Campus Vista Historic Neighborhood

This is a remodel and addition to a beautiful existing mid century modest home in the Campus Vista Historic Neighborhood on a quiet street. The existing house had a substantial addition made to it not long after it was built but it didn’t work for the client’s needs. She wanted a primary bedroom suite, a sanctuary, facing the back yard.

Since the original house was so well designed, we wanted to keep the great parts of the house intact while significantly modifying the existing addition, which wasn’t designed so well. We improved the connection between the original house and the back addition and created a large, light-filled primary bedroom suite for the client with large windows facing the back yard and opening to a private patio covered with a trellis, creating a private sanctuary away from the public parts of the house for the client. The client had plans to add plants and landscape her back yard to create an indoor/outdoor experience with her primary bedroom. We designed large floor-to-ceiling windows facing the back yard so she could commune with nature.
